Along life’s journey we sometimes come across people who have a big impact in our lives.  For me, one of those people is Ross James.  As a teacher, colleague, friend and mentor for more than 20 years, I was so delighted that Ross has finally captured some of his remarkable life-journey in print in his new book, "Ascent, Crest, Perspective - the Making of a Bamboo Camel."

With candour and honesty and his inimitable self-deprecating humour, Ross' memoir traces a remarkable journey through many challenging circumstances in some of the world's more hostile environments.  Providence and hope are powerful, uniting threads that weave their way through every chapter, reminding the reader that through the changing scenes of life, the successes, failures, triumphs and tragedies, God can use each stage of life.  The clear message from this book is that life is not about survival but about arrival. Not whether you get there, but what you have become by the time you do.
